Don't Push Your Luck

Today was incredibly warm for this time of year in Michigan. It was a wonderful day for weather! I put on a skirt, a sweater, and fall ankle boots and skipped about campus all day in the crunchy leaves. It was really pleasant. However, I wanted to yell at all the people I saw with their winter boots, hats, scarves, and Northfaces zipped to their chins. Don't they know that they have to enjoy this weather while it lasts? Soon (in a few days, maybe hours) the sun will go away and forget about Michigan till April. I believe that by dressing that way they are sending out the message that they are ready for winter. I'm not saying that they should go back to sandals (see previous clothing rant) but really they could wear fall attire for a little longer. The season is so short, and it needs to be treated properly!

Sunday Afternoon

I don't even bother turning on the food network anymore. I can't even bring myself to capitalize its name. Serves them right. I just hope that somehow, they know that they are being punished with improper grammar. Take that, evil TV corporation! Until they let me know what has happened to my beloved Brian Boitano, they shall be disgraced with lower case letters.

So I have been thinking lately that I should change the title of my blog. With the exception of YTW, my entries tend to be pure rant, rather than small thoughts. It cannot be helped. There is just something therapeutic about sending rants out in cyberspace where someone else may read them and agree. (And I don't need anyone to remind me about how unlikely it is that the legions of Brian Boitano fans are flocking to my blog to see what I have to say on the matter.)

Let me post a little non ranting for once. This weekend there was a renaissance fair (faire?) on campus. I only had time to quickly walk through it, but it was fun nonetheless. I wish
I had more time (and money) to spend there before they leave. There is just something about those fairs that make
them so much fun. Maybe the air of sillyness that I seem to associate with men who dress like a cross between King
Arthur and Jack Sparrow. Heh heh...

Seasonal

Ahh, fall in west Michigan. The leaves are starting to change, the geese are migrating, the air is crisp, and the long quest to stay warm and dry in foul weather has begun. The transition from warm weather to freezing is very short here. Cute fall jackets and skirts with boots? Yeah, you can wear those items for about 3 days before having to switch to a coat and many, many layers. And the freezing weather sticks around till the end of March. Oh well, it is a good thing I like snow.

But what I don't understand is when I see people (usually, but not always girls) bundled up, complete with hat, scarf, gloves, jacket, pants, and looking rather cozy, except for the sandals on their feet. And I see this a lot. It is almost like an insult to nature. And fashion. Like wearing Uggs with shorts (or wearing Uggs at all). But seriously people, You are going to bundle your body up but leave your feet quite literally, out in the cold? And it hasn't been just cold, it has been rainy too. You can't really expect to go long in west Michigan without some precipitation.

I just hope that these people wise up and start wearing some proper fall shoes.

Hot Mess

My life is somewhat of a hot mess right now. The only real joys I have are eating at Fresh Food, the knowledge that the weekend will come again, and the satisfaction I get from saying the phrase "hot mess". Say it with me: HOT MESS. Hot mess. Hotmesshotmesshotmess. Anyway, why is my life such a hot mess right now? As if the fact that I am a poor college student wasn't enough.

1. I am behind in 3 classes. Significantly behind. Like, I have so much work that I don't even know where to begin, and if I work on getting one subject done, the others have to suffer.

2. My new tights somehow stained my fingernails blue. They are a blue plaid type of pattern and when I put them on this morning, the color rubbed off on my hands. It washed off my fingers but the color on my nails seemed to intensify aftr meeting up with soap and water. I don't even want to think what these tights are doing to the inside of my skirt right now. I fear that the khaki may look more like denim when the day is through.

3. I have so many assignments due this week. I know that goes along with #1, but it is such a big thing that I think it should be mentioned twice. Besides, #1 is more about being behind on my reading, and this one describes more of why I can't catch up on that reading.

4. Because of #1 and #3, I don't have much time to go to the gym. I am losing all the progress I made in the first weeks of the school year.

5. My dirty laundry is overflowing. I won't run out of clothes, because I am blessed with an extensive wardrobe, but I am afraid that the dirty laundry might aquire some form of intelligence and mobility and come attack me in the night.

6. If my laundry does decide to attack me, I will be ready for it because I don't get to bed until about 4 am (reason #6 why my life is a hot mess). So if it is planning a sneak attack it should wait until daybreak. But we all know that evil supernatural laundry can only move about at night, so I am safe.

7. Brian Boitano has dissapeared from his Sunday time slot, and I have no idea where he went to. Food Network is not giving me answers, but instead they are throwing Paula Dean dipped in butter and deep fried at me through the airwaves. Not cool Food Network, not cool.

8. All the other things I want to do are being pushed to the wayside. I am in 3 organizations but I really only have the time to dedicate to one, and I hate that. I want to go on trips with the backpacking club, but I don'y have the time, or the gear, which leads me to my next point.

9. I don't have any money to buy the things I want. I want to buy some proper backpacking gear so I can go on these trips, but I don't have the money. I only have enough money to buy the food I need. I have no income. I have an etsy account that I could seel things on, but then I don't have the time to make things to sell.

Hot mess. Most definatly. I just keep telling myself that this college thing is worth it. It is hard to believe when school is keeping me from all the things I love to do. When I am staying up late reading about things that I have no interest in, it is hard to make myself believe that I want to be here. When I find myself dragging my feet through boring classes, drinking gallons of coffee (coffee on campus tastes like hot garbage, by the way) just to get myself through the day, and finding that there isnt't enough time in a weekend to catch up on work and sleep, it is really hard to make myself believe that I am in the right place, doing the right thing. I had better get a job when I graduate or so help me...

Not Happy!

What Would Brian Boitano Make was not on the Food Network today when it was supposed to be! Every Sunday at one I faithfully tune into the Food Network to watch the hilarity that is Brian Boitano. Last week I got a hint that something was awry since they played a rerun rather than a new episode. But this week he wasn't there at all! And foodnetwork.com is set up horribly, so I can't find any useful information. Oh sure, go there to find any recipe you would ever need, but try to find info on your new favorite show that has suddenly disappeared from the tv? Impossible! Oh Brian, where did you go?

Where is the new episode?

Every Sunday I watch What Would Brian Boitano Make on the Food Network. But today it wasn't a new episode! They showed the first episode of the season. I am pretty upset. Since the fiasco with Pushing Daisies I can't help but be a little wary when they start messing with my favorite shows. All I have to say is there better be a new episode next week. Or else.

In other news, I think one of my professors killed a sofa to make the outfit she wore to the last class. (I am not saying which prof in order to protect myself, lolz) But seriously. She was wearing a blazer made out of this thick fabric with this big floral pattern on it. I immediately thought of upholstery.

Mid Week

I took an accidental nap yesterday. I just laid down on my bed when I got home from class and completely conked out. I must have needed it if I fell asleep so quickly. It is only September but it already feels like that I have been here for months. Gah. I am so busy! And I want to more. I don't know how I am going to fit it all in. I am in three organizations, I am learning how to sew, I am head of Project PD, I go to the gym everyday, I am adding a minor and I want to study abroad. There just isn't enough time in four years of school to fit it all in. I want to graduate in 4 years, but if I study abroad I don't think I will be able to.

Good news! I think I will have time to actually sew something this weekend! And I have a fun post planned for when I upload the pictures from my camera.

I would rather...

Be knitting than my homework. I am awfully fatigued today and I just feel like curling up and doing something crafty. I have been dying to break out my sewing machine since I got here. But I don't have the time. I know what you are thinking, if I would get my homework done early then I could devote some time to craftiness. But in order to get my homework done right, I have to devote hours. And once I'm done with classes, go to the gym, shower, and eat, I am exhausted and short on hours. Oh well.

Back to School

So Blogger changed the way that I sign in, so for the longest time I couldn't log in to my account. Boo. But I figured it out today! So guess what I am doing instead of homework! That's right.

So here is a thought for the day. At the gym I have noticed that the girls with the cutest exercise outfits are also the ones that take working out the least seriously. Hmm. Today when I went to do some laps on the track I noticed two girls standing by the railing (it is an elevated track) talking on their cell phones and clearly not working out. They stood there the whole time I was running and then when I was doing my cool down, they met up with some friends, ran two laps, and left the track. And they were thin. How does that work? Do they eat nothing? My prediction is that their bodies will catch up with them and their hips will spread after they have children. And by the shorts they were wearing I know that they will.

Finals Update

One final down. I think I did good on it... It took me less than an hour to do and it didn't seem that hard. Today I didn't have any finals but I did have an interview at the Writing Center. I hope I get the job! Tomorrow I have my Italian final and I have to go to a class after that and watch other people do presentations. Then on Thursday I have a presentation and a paper due, and then an online final after that. I am not worried at all about the online final. The other ones I am a little worried about. Especially since my paper need to be 1200-1500 words and I currently have 300. Go me!

I can't WAIT till this week is over...

Finals Week

Finals have begun... I have my first one in less than an hour. ewww. I have one today, none tomorrow, one on Wednesday, and two on Thursday. One of them on Thursday is a group project presentation. Double yuck. If there is no YTW, you know why.

Mysterious Dorm Happenings

So I have come to the conclusion that bad little elves come in my room and throw perfectly clean clothes in my hamper when I'm not looking, causing me to always have to do 50 loads of laundry every 3 hours. If anyone knows how to get rid of these elves, I would love the advice.

Update!

So I finally have a few minutes to breathe and update this poor, half-neglected blog. Actually, I should be using my time in the library (that is where I am currently) to get a jump on my reading that I half to do over spring break. But I won't. I am way ahead most of the class anyway, because unlike them, I actually DO the reading. Honestly I don't know how they write the papers if they don't even read the books. But now I am getting ranty. Let's move on.

Ok, new rant. I haven't been sleeping very well lately. I am not sure why. No matter how late it is, I just lay there, wide awake. So I am going to blame something for this unexplainable lack of slumbering. I blame Sunday night. Or rather, Monday morning, because this took place at 1:00 in the morning. I was all showered and ready to get into bed to finish my homework, when (of course) the fire alarm goes off. I hate the fire alarm. And this wasn't the only time that it went off at a horribly inconvenient time. One time it got me out of bed an hour early in the mroning and forced me to stand out in the cold in my pajamas. I was also in my pa-jim-jams on Monday. My hair was wet too. So my roomie Mel and I threw on our coats and boots and trekked out into the freezing weather, cursing all the way. Because God forbid we get trapped in a building where someone down the hall had an epic cooking FAIL. (What i want to know is, what the hell were they cooking at ONE IN THE MORNING???)So we stood out there, and guess what! Just guess. My hair froze. Yes, FROZE. At first Mel didn't believe me, but I had her feel one of the icy locks hanging off my head. Just perfect. But wait! There's more! So the police come (the fire department knows by now that our building fails at cooking, and it's no big deal) and let us back into the building. They shut the alarm in the hallway off, but the ones in the individual rooms continue. And they are LOUD. Mel and I shut ourselves into the bathroom because luckily the sound was slightly muffled in there. This alarm goes on for about five minutes straight. I told Mel to go smash the thing but she wouldn't listen to me. Go figure. So by the time I brushed my teeth and finished my remaining homework it was about 2:30. And my ears were still ringing from that @#@#%^#&*&#$@% alarm. Ever since I haven't been able to fall asleep until sometime close to 4:00. Go me.

I must run to class now (LAST ONE BEFORE SPRING BREAK!!!) so I will write Update part deux when I have the time,

Sorry I am so boring!

I don't have much to blog about lately, because most of my time is spent doing homework. I have had so much work this semester that I get this terrible sense of guilt any time that I am not reading or doing other homework. Like right now, for example. I haven't hit a major stress point yet, but it will probably come sooner or later. I have to spend almost every spare minute I have when I'm not sleeping, eating, or in class on homework, otherwise I won't have enough time to get it done. I can't afford to leave everything for Sunday anymore, because everything that I have to do is so time consuming. I even read while I'm in the gym. Yay for exercise machines! Thankfully the work I have to do isn't impossibly hard. Like I said, it is just ridiculously time consuming. Right now I am wasting precious minutes and cutting into my slumbering time...

But I don't want to complain too much. That is plenty for now. :-) I do take pleasure in the simple joys that have popped up recently. Such as:

*My "soundtrack" playlist on itunes. I have the soundtracks to Wall-E, Coraline, Chocolate, and Zelda: Ocarina of Time on shuffle, and I must say that it is on the awesome side of perfect.
*Figuring out my housing for next year. Yay apartment 13A!
*Reading the 1 star reviews of Twilight on Amazon.com. Seriously people, these are HILARIOUS. Go read them. Even if you like Twilight (why...?!) you may find these observations comical.
*Knitting group! I've started going to a knitting group on Thursdays. It is really the perfect end to my week of classes. The people that show up are so much fun to be around and I love getting off campus for a few hours.
*My new ringtone! I uploaded "Exploration" and "End Credits" from Coraline onto Myxer.com and sent them to my phone. I am currently using "Exploration" for my text ring. I love it!
*Madcap Coffee shop downtown. Great atmosphere and great chai! Mmmmm... chai...

So that's it for now, I'm off to do more homework. Maybe I'll be in bed before 2:00 AM for once!

YTW+

Back at a grueling week of school after a grueling weekend at home (8 page paper that was due on Monday took up the majority of my weekend.) And if I judge by the weather, this is not West Michigan in February. It is 54 degrees out! The snow that was piling up over my knees last week has been reduced to sad, icy clumps scattered across campus. Girls are walking around in shorts and flip-flops, and guys are sitting outside smoking hookah. Everyone has been asking me if I've been enjoying the weather. Hmmm, well that would be a big fat NO. I hate when the weather is like this. Because I know that it is just going to get freezing again, and we won't see the sun again until mid April. I only like 54 degree weather when I know that it is spring for sure and the tulips are peeking out of the dirt. Also, I can't enjoy much of anything right now because I have contracted a nasty little cold. Blech.

So the youtube clip of the week? Here it is! And if you haven't gone to see this in theaters already, SHAME ON YOU. Go see it. NOW.

Will some one please make it stop? Please???

I have so much work to do this weekend I don't even know where to start. So I'm starting by posting a blog update. Go me! I won't bore you with the details of all my homework assignments. Because, quite frankly, it is too painful for me to describe.

So right now I am waiting for Melanie to get out of the bathroom so I can get ready. Then we are going downtown to the art museum because she needs to go see it for a class. I don't mind, I've been wanting to go see it for a long time, but I just wish I didn't have so much work to do. Maybe I could bring my laptop on the bus and start one of the three papers I should be working on... ugh. Typing that was painful.

So in other news I am super excited to go home next weekend and see CORALINE!!! I can't wait!!! I have been following all the updates about online for a little while now and I am just so super excited. It is almost enough to take my mind off the looming homework and laundry I have to shovel through before next weekend...

Well, just livin' the college life...
