Don't Push Your Luck

Today was incredibly warm for this time of year in Michigan. It was a wonderful day for weather! I put on a skirt, a sweater, and fall ankle boots and skipped about campus all day in the crunchy leaves. It was really pleasant. However, I wanted to yell at all the people I saw with their winter boots, hats, scarves, and Northfaces zipped to their chins. Don't they know that they have to enjoy this weather while it lasts? Soon (in a few days, maybe hours) the sun will go away and forget about Michigan till April. I believe that by dressing that way they are sending out the message that they are ready for winter. I'm not saying that they should go back to sandals (see previous clothing rant) but really they could wear fall attire for a little longer. The season is so short, and it needs to be treated properly!

Sunday Afternoon

I don't even bother turning on the food network anymore. I can't even bring myself to capitalize its name. Serves them right. I just hope that somehow, they know that they are being punished with improper grammar. Take that, evil TV corporation! Until they let me know what has happened to my beloved Brian Boitano, they shall be disgraced with lower case letters.

So I have been thinking lately that I should change the title of my blog. With the exception of YTW, my entries tend to be pure rant, rather than small thoughts. It cannot be helped. There is just something therapeutic about sending rants out in cyberspace where someone else may read them and agree. (And I don't need anyone to remind me about how unlikely it is that the legions of Brian Boitano fans are flocking to my blog to see what I have to say on the matter.)

Let me post a little non ranting for once. This weekend there was a renaissance fair (faire?) on campus. I only had time to quickly walk through it, but it was fun nonetheless. I wish
I had more time (and money) to spend there before they leave. There is just something about those fairs that make
them so much fun. Maybe the air of sillyness that I seem to associate with men who dress like a cross between King
Arthur and Jack Sparrow. Heh heh...

Seasonal

Ahh, fall in west Michigan. The leaves are starting to change, the geese are migrating, the air is crisp, and the long quest to stay warm and dry in foul weather has begun. The transition from warm weather to freezing is very short here. Cute fall jackets and skirts with boots? Yeah, you can wear those items for about 3 days before having to switch to a coat and many, many layers. And the freezing weather sticks around till the end of March. Oh well, it is a good thing I like snow.

But what I don't understand is when I see people (usually, but not always girls) bundled up, complete with hat, scarf, gloves, jacket, pants, and looking rather cozy, except for the sandals on their feet. And I see this a lot. It is almost like an insult to nature. And fashion. Like wearing Uggs with shorts (or wearing Uggs at all). But seriously people, You are going to bundle your body up but leave your feet quite literally, out in the cold? And it hasn't been just cold, it has been rainy too. You can't really expect to go long in west Michigan without some precipitation.

I just hope that these people wise up and start wearing some proper fall shoes.

Boring?

I have come to the conclusion that my blog is pretty boring right now. I mean, you really can't blame me since all I do now is muddle through school days. But I am determined to make it a better blog! I have been thinking about what I like to see in blogs that I read, and I think I will incorporate some of those elements in my own bloggity blog. (Blog is such a funny word, isn't it?) So! Fom now on there will be more pictures, anecdotes, videos (I am reinstating YouTube Wednesdays!) and maybe a piece of fiction thrown in here and there. I am also going to try to update more often, because I hate when readers have to wait DAYS to here from their favorite blogger. So wish me luck and watch for improvements!

One thought.

The image of a half eaten banana just popped in my head. You know, when someone will cut a banana in half, and eat one part of it and leave the rest to get brown on the counter. I remember my grandparents on my dad's side doing this a lot. Who wants to eat just half of a banana? It isn't very big or filling, so why not just eat the whole thing? Do they ever get around to eating the other half? The fact that people do this really bothers me. And this is what I think about when I should be doing homework.

Mid Week

I took an accidental nap yesterday. I just laid down on my bed when I got home from class and completely conked out. I must have needed it if I fell asleep so quickly. It is only September but it already feels like that I have been here for months. Gah. I am so busy! And I want to more. I don't know how I am going to fit it all in. I am in three organizations, I am learning how to sew, I am head of Project PD, I go to the gym everyday, I am adding a minor and I want to study abroad. There just isn't enough time in four years of school to fit it all in. I want to graduate in 4 years, but if I study abroad I don't think I will be able to.

Good news! I think I will have time to actually sew something this weekend! And I have a fun post planned for when I upload the pictures from my camera.

I would rather...

Be knitting than my homework. I am awfully fatigued today and I just feel like curling up and doing something crafty. I have been dying to break out my sewing machine since I got here. But I don't have the time. I know what you are thinking, if I would get my homework done early then I could devote some time to craftiness. But in order to get my homework done right, I have to devote hours. And once I'm done with classes, go to the gym, shower, and eat, I am exhausted and short on hours. Oh well.

Mysterious Dorm Happenings

So I have come to the conclusion that bad little elves come in my room and throw perfectly clean clothes in my hamper when I'm not looking, causing me to always have to do 50 loads of laundry every 3 hours. If anyone knows how to get rid of these elves, I would love the advice.

Double YTW

So this week, all my lovely readers, you get TWO videos! This first one I found last week and it just cracked me up! Especially with the changes they have made to Facebook... But that is another rant for another day. The second video I found today and I can't wait a week to put it up. This is another one that gave me a mega lolz. Enjoy!

WTH is a failwhale???

Now, I have watched a few of this guy's videos, and I must say that he is rather strange. But his cat is just the cutest thing in the world! He reminds me of my kitty Binx.

Memories

So randomly memories pop in my head. Here's one for ya:

So when I was little I would spend a lot of time at my grandma's house waiting for my mom to get off work. I spent longs hours watching my two older cousins (brothers) play video games. I know, I had a very educating childhood. So this particular memory is from the time that my cousins discovered the phrase "your mom". They were playing Mortal Combat and would integrate "your mom" into one of their many battle cries. Me, being the smart cookie I was, piped in and said "you have the same mom!" Then one of them replied, "no we don't" and called the other one a bastard. Took me years to figure that one out. Just thought you all would like to know.

Came across this video last night when I couldn't get to sleep. I especially like the mini shoes!

Update!

So I finally have a few minutes to breathe and update this poor, half-neglected blog. Actually, I should be using my time in the library (that is where I am currently) to get a jump on my reading that I half to do over spring break. But I won't. I am way ahead most of the class anyway, because unlike them, I actually DO the reading. Honestly I don't know how they write the papers if they don't even read the books. But now I am getting ranty. Let's move on.

Ok, new rant. I haven't been sleeping very well lately. I am not sure why. No matter how late it is, I just lay there, wide awake. So I am going to blame something for this unexplainable lack of slumbering. I blame Sunday night. Or rather, Monday morning, because this took place at 1:00 in the morning. I was all showered and ready to get into bed to finish my homework, when (of course) the fire alarm goes off. I hate the fire alarm. And this wasn't the only time that it went off at a horribly inconvenient time. One time it got me out of bed an hour early in the mroning and forced me to stand out in the cold in my pajamas. I was also in my pa-jim-jams on Monday. My hair was wet too. So my roomie Mel and I threw on our coats and boots and trekked out into the freezing weather, cursing all the way. Because God forbid we get trapped in a building where someone down the hall had an epic cooking FAIL. (What i want to know is, what the hell were they cooking at ONE IN THE MORNING???)So we stood out there, and guess what! Just guess. My hair froze. Yes, FROZE. At first Mel didn't believe me, but I had her feel one of the icy locks hanging off my head. Just perfect. But wait! There's more! So the police come (the fire department knows by now that our building fails at cooking, and it's no big deal) and let us back into the building. They shut the alarm in the hallway off, but the ones in the individual rooms continue. And they are LOUD. Mel and I shut ourselves into the bathroom because luckily the sound was slightly muffled in there. This alarm goes on for about five minutes straight. I told Mel to go smash the thing but she wouldn't listen to me. Go figure. So by the time I brushed my teeth and finished my remaining homework it was about 2:30. And my ears were still ringing from that @#@#%^#&*&#$@% alarm. Ever since I haven't been able to fall asleep until sometime close to 4:00. Go me.

I must run to class now (LAST ONE BEFORE SPRING BREAK!!!) so I will write Update part deux when I have the time,

Hello!

My good friend Josh  recently requested all of his friends to start up a blog. I think he has some intellectual motive for wanting to read about other people's schoolwork... I don't know. All I know is that he asked, and he shall receive. Also, I must like punishment, because I am committing to a blog when I have almost zero time for anything in my schedule as is. Oh well, we'll see how this goes. I'll write something interesting later, but right now I have to go suck my brain dry by reading Thoreau. Yuck.
